Ideas to further limit cooperation between the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and federal immigration officials were met with cheers and jeers from community members Thursday at a civilian oversight meeting in downtown Los Angeles.
The recent passage of Senate Bill 54, sometimes referred to as a “sanctuary state” law, already limits the ability of state and local police —including the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department—to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other federal officials.
