Months after the Rim of the World Unified School District was embroiled in controversy over the Confederate flag, district employees mock-lynched a black baby doll on a public bulletin board, removing it only after a parent complained to district officials.

“‘This can’t really be what I think it is,’” Jenny Thompson recalled.
