In every region of the state, incidents have occurred in which racial, ethnic, religious, and sexual minorities have been harassed, intimidated, assaulted and even murdered. In some communities, acts motivated by bigotry have sparked widespread community disruption.

Reputed Latino gang members indicted in attack on black youths

Two men face federal hate crime charges in connection with an attack on four youths in Compton, allegedly as part of a gang’s effort to drive blacks from the area.

Latino gang members accused of terrorizing Compton black family

Two Latino gang members have been arrested on suspicion of hate crimes after allegedly waging a campaign to force a black family to move from Compton, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.

Tires were slashed, rocks hurled through windows and acid pellets fired at the car of a black family, who finally fled their neighborhood in November after months of attacks and racial taunts.

Despite hate mail, Pasadena church will host Muslim event

Despite receiving a slew of hate mail, All Saints Church in Pasadena is moving forward with a conference hosted by the Muslim Public Affairs Council — the first time the organization has conducted an event at a Christian church.

Black family flees O.C. city after tires slashed, racial taunts

An African American police officer and his family said they fled their upscale Orange County community after rocks were thrown through their windows, their tires were slashed and racial taunts were shouted by passing motorists. Last month, someone shot corrosive acid pellets into his garage, which damaged his car.
